Fleet size, Stand-off Jammer fate in doubt

Despite recent indications from Pentagon officials that the size of the Air Force's B-52 bomber fleet may be cut nearly in half, service officials have not asked the aircraft's manufacturer Boeing to alter modernization plans for the venerable fleet, according to a senior company official.

“We’re waiting for our customer . . . to come out with a budget and what they want to hit with the platform,” Scot Oathout, Boeing’s B-52 program manager, told Inside the Air Force Jan. 27. “I think it’s let’s wait and see how the (fiscal year 2007) budget shakes out . . . but we’re here and they know that.”
