MQ-1 Predator crashes in Iraq

SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFNEWS) -- A U.S. Air Force MQ-1 Predator unmanned aerial vehicle crashed Feb. 23 approximately 60 miles northeast of Jalalabad, Afghanistan at approximately 1 p.m. local time.
Initial indications are that the crash was due to mechanical failure. There is no indication the Predator was fired upon.

The Predator crashed into a remote and unpopulated area with no injuries to people or damage to property on the ground. The MQ-1Predator is a medium-altitude, long-endurance, remotely piloted aircraft.

Recovery efforts have begun and no further information is available at this time.
