L.B.'s 'Red Team' tries to rescue C-17
LONG BEACH - A city-led push to help create financial incentives for Boeing's C-17 production plant, and make the plane cheaper and more appealing to military buyers, takes its efforts to Sacramento today.

The Long Beach "red team" of local, state and private representatives will lobby lawmakers to extend the designation of the Boeing plant as an enterprise zone, which would allow tax advantages.

And on Tuesday, team members will brief the City Council on its overall efforts during a 3:30 p.m. study session at the City Council Chambers and prior to a regularly scheduled 5 p.m. meeting.

In December, the Pentagon's top transportation officer said the Air Force appears to have enough C-17s in its system and should focus on new tanker airplanes that also carry cargo and ferry troops.
