In recent years, dozens of reports have been filed by people who claim to have seen one or more high speed triangular-shaped craft. The descriptions of the shape and sound of the craft is the same all over the world.

This was in a newspaper article in 1992:
"... Aurora was being flown from a base in the Nevada desert to an atoll in the Pacific, then on to Scotland to refuel before returning to the US at night. Specially modified tanker aircraft are being used to top up Aurora's tanks with liquid methane fuel in mid-air... The US Air Force is using the remote RAF airbase at Machrihanish, Strathclyde, as a staging point... The mystery aircraft has been dropping in at night before streaking back to America across the North Pole at more than six times the speed of sound... An F-111 fighter bomber is scrambling as the black-painted aircraft lands, flying in close formation to confuse prying civilian radars."

I believe that this article is not far from the truth, there have been quite a few reports in Scotland, and of course the famous 'Northsea sighting' by Chris Gibson.
Many people in Norway claim to have seen triangular UFO's as well, Norway houses a few remote NATO airbases.

What is the function of the Aurora?

I've seen hundereds of Aurora websites, they all claim that the Aurora is, or will be the replacement of the SR-71.
For once I'm going to believe the airforce;
They claim that the SR-71 Blackbird has been retired because the aircraft was too expensive and that the plane had been made redundant by sophisticated spy satellites.
The latest (official declassified) spy satellites can see through clouds, and provide even better images that the Blackbird and the U-2.
I also believe that reconnaissance missions with aircraft will be fully taken over by the RQ-1 Predator and the long range RQ-4 Global Hawk UAV in the near future.

I think that the Aurora will serve as a military space plane (MPS), the Air Force interest in military spaceplanes stretches back nearly 40 years.
There are also speculations that the Aurora could have some sort of weapon bay.
In the 2025 USAF future weapons proposals, you can see that the airforce is interested in a Supersonic/Hypersonic Attack Aircraft (SHAAFT).
Supersonic/Hypersonic Attack Aircraft (SHAAFT)
So there are a lot of reasons to believe that "THEY" are using/testing a hypersonic craft.

Propulsion

The propulsion system that is most likely used for hypersonic travel is a 'Pulse Detonation Wave Engine' (PDWE).
Liquid methane or liquid hydrogen is ejected onto the fuselage, where the fuel mist is ignited, possibly by surface heating.
These engines produce the famous 'donuts-on-a-rope' contrails.

The engine works pretty much like this:
