The Sukhoi PAK FA (or PAK-FA) is a fifth-generation fighter which is being developed by Russia. PAK FA stands for Perspektivnyi Aviatsionnyi Kompleks Frontovoi Aviatsyi (Перспективный авиационный комплекс фронтовой авиации in Russian) which roughly means Advanced Tactical Frontline Fighter. It is being developed by a consortium of companies spearheaded by Sukhoi OKB, which refers internally to the project as the T-50. The PAK FA is intended to replace the MiG-29 Fulcrum and Su-27 Flanker in the Russian Air Force; it is scheduled to have its first flight in 2009[2] and enter service with the Air Force subsequently. The aircraft is designed to be comparable to both the American F-22 Raptor and the multi-national F-35 Lightning II.[3]
